Modern Theatre
Our Modern Dance classes focus on Jazz, Lyrical, and Commercial styles as well as ISTD syllabus work giving a well rounded understanding of the Modern Theatre style.
In early grades students gain an understanding of coordination of simple movements which are then set into fun combinations or sequences. Children begin to build up a vocabulary of basic dance terminology while learning and memory methods are improved.
Higher levels continue on from the earlier grades and work on technique, performance, line and style. Classes promote fitness for fun, while students also have the opportunity to study Graded exam syllabus work from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD Modern Theatre Branch) and also with the Irish Board of Dance Performance.
ISTD Examinations
Students have the opportunity to learn a set syllabus of required exercises in Modern Theatre Dance and Imperial Ballet with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing as well as with the Irish Board of Dance Performance.
In Contemporary Dance students can also take their exams through the ISTD as well as with ID Dance at a level appropriate to their individual ability. Successful candidates will be examined by an external examiner in their specific grade. These grades are progressive and are meant to be taken sequentially to produce well rounded versatile dancers.
Exams are an excellent way for students to progress in their dance studies and further their technique. Many doors can be opened to students in the form of Vocational exams (Professional exams) upon completion of the lower grades, leading to possibilities to pursue dance in third level education and professional performance opportunities.
Although part of classes in terms of technique and learning, exams are not obligatory. Some students enjoy learning the syllabus merely for recreation and apllying it to their everyday lives and choose not to take exams but instead look forward to the annual end of year show and performance opportunities instead.
Candidates who do wish to take part in exams will be assessed by the teacher and only put forward when they are confident and considered ready with a comprehensive knowledge of the syllabus.
Elevation holds a 100% pass rate in all ISTD examinations.
